Burgan set for opening match against Al-Jazira in Arab Clubs Championship

DOHA, Jan 15: The 43rd Arab Clubs Volleyball Championship will take place in Doha, Qatar, from January 16-25, featuring 15 clubs divided into four groups. Group A includes Omani Al-Salam, Emirati Bani Yas, and Libyan Al-Suwaihli, while Group B features Omani Al-Seeb, Egyptian Zamalek, Kuwait, and Libyan Al-Hilal. Group C consists of Iraqi Arbil, Bahraini Dar Kulaib, Egyptian Al-Ahly, and Qatari Al-Shorta. The fourth group includes Kuwaiti Burgan, Palestinian Gaza, Qatari teams, and Emirati Al-Jazira.

The tournament will kick off with three matches on the opening day. Al-Salam will face Bani Yas at 2:00 pm, followed by Burgan’s match against Al-Jazira at 4:30 pm, and at 7:00 pm, Gaza will play Qatar.

According to the tournament format, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, which will take place on January 22. The remaining teams will compete for positions 9 through 15.

Burgan prepared for the championship with an external camp in Cairo, Egypt, where they played a friendly match against Heliopolis. The Burgan volleyball delegation is headed by the club's vice president, Mohammed Al-Faraj, and includes team officials such as head of the volleyball apparatus Mohammed Al-Otaibi, administrator Ahmed Al-Houli, Argentine coach Alejandro Grossi, and 18 players.

In local league action, two volleyball matches are scheduled today for the general men's category. At 5: 00 pm, Kazma (3 points) will face Al-Sahel (0 points) at the Union Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex, followed by the match between Al-Qadisiyah (3 points) and Al-Sulaibikhat (0 points) at 7:00 pm.
