Burgan wraps up Cairo camp and heads to Doha for the Arab Championship

Burgan heads to Doha.

CAIRO, Jan 13: Burgan Club has wrapped up its training camp in Cairo, Egypt, and is set to depart today for Doha to participate in the 43rd Arab Men’s Clubs Volleyball Championship. The tournament will take place in Doha from January 16 to 26, featuring 15 Arab clubs, including Burgan and Kuwait Club.

During its Cairo camp, Burgan played one friendly match against Heliopolis, while scheduled matches with Al-Ahly and Zamalek were canceled.

The Burgan delegation is led by the club's vice president, Mohammed Al-Faraj, and includes volleyball apparatus head Mohammed Al-Otaibi, administrator Ahmed Al-Holi, Argentine coach Alejandro Grossi, and 18 players.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Club continues its preparations for the championship with intensive daily training sessions at their camp in Doha. The Kuwait delegation is headed by the club’s Director of Volleyball, Musleh Al-Rashidi, and includes administrators Mosaed Al-Amiri and Abdulaziz Al-Duwaisan, Turkish head coach Taner Atik, assistant coach Erin Jay, and fitness coach Dr. Abdullah Talib, along with 18 players.

The tournament draw placed Burgan in Group Four, alongside Gaza (Palestine), Qatar SC (Qatar), and Al-Jazira (UAE). Kuwait Club was placed in Group Two, joining Al-Seeb (Oman), Zamalek (Egypt), and Al-Hilal (Libya).

In a related development, the women’s league for the 2024-2025 sports season kicks off today. Three clubs—Al-Fatat, Salwa Al-Sabah Club, and Al-Oyoun Girls—are participating. The opening match will feature Al-Fatat facing Al-Oyoun Girls at 6 p.m. in the Al-Fatat Club Hall.
