Campaigns to stop street ice cream sales starting in the new year

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: An informed source revealed that starting from the new year, intensive field campaigns will be launched across the country by the municipality, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, and the Ministry of Interior to prevent the sale of ice cream on the streets.

The Public Services Committee of the Cabinet was informed that December 31 will be the last day for valid licenses for street vendors operating mobile ice cream carts.

The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers sent a letter to the Municipality regarding its statement on mobile ice cream carts. The letter mentioned that the Public Services Committee reviewed, during its meeting on December 22, the letter from the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Mishari. The letter, which included the minutes of a meeting chaired by Al-Mishari, discussed the issue of mobile ice cream carts and was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Municipality, and the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition.

During the meeting, Dr. Reem Al-Fulaij, Chairperson of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, confirmed several violations, including the unsuitability of the ice cream carts in terms of food safety and temperature requirements. She also highlighted the sale of food items beyond the scope of the permitted activities for these carts, noting that they were no longer meeting the minimum food safety standards.
