KUWAIT CITY, Nov 20: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) has launched the “Al-Birr is a Trust” campaign, timed to coincide with the spring camping season, which runs until mid-March. Acting Director General of the Authority, Samira Al-Kandari, stated to KUNA that the campaign aims to raise awareness among desert visitors and camp owners about the importance of environmental preservation. It emphasizes adherence to the regulations outlined in the Environmental Protection Law, specifically those governing the protection of land and agricultural areas. Al-Kandari highlighted that the campaign seeks to educate the public on the procedures and requirements for obtaining camping licenses.
It also underscores the necessity of following the Environmental Protection Law to prevent harm to wildlife and the natural environment. She stressed the vital role of social responsibility in safeguarding the environment. The Authority has urged everyone to comply with Articles 40 to 47 of the Environmental Law, which address the protection of terrestrial and agricultural environments from pollution. Al-Kandari also noted ongoing coordination with the Kuwait Municipality to ensure the camping season is organized in an environmentally responsible manner. These legal provisions include penalties ranging from 250 dinars to as high as 5,000 dinars for violations. Prohibited activities include damaging or polluting soil, altering its natural properties, digging, erecting barriers, hunting or harming wildlife and their nests, and encroaching on nature reserves, public service facilities, oil sites, military zones, or waste dumps. Other restricted activities include grazing livestock or exploiting agricultural lands in ways that degrade vegetation, cause desertification, or uproot wild plants and fl owers. The campaign seeks to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and ensure the sustainability of Kuwait’s natural ecosystems during the camping season and beyond.
