Capital governor urges protection of Souq Mubarakiya’s cultural identity

KUWAIT CITY, May 30: The Capital Governor Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah has stressed the importance of preserving the authentic archaeological, popular features and cultural identity in Souq Mubarakiya due to its link with the Kuwaiti cultural heritage. He said this during the inspection tour he carried out Thursday morning in Souq Mubarakiya accompanied by the Head of the Voluntary Work Center Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The tour included visiting multiple sites with the aim of reviewing the existing problems in Souq Mubarakiya, and working to develop appropriate solutions to them in accordance with laws and regulations. The governor explained that Souq Mubarakiya carries a historical fragrance and ancient heritage value. It is an area that combines architectural, tourism, marketing and entertainment styles, and is regarded as one of the most attractive areas for citizens, residents and visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as foreign tourists.

The Capital Governorate will spare no effort in supporting all efforts that would preserve the high style of popular heritage in Souq Mubarakiya, and cooperate with the relevant government institutions and private parties, in order to address all existing problems. This can be either at the level of public cleanliness or developing the necessary facilities and services, in

addition to adding an aesthetic character while preserving the heritage value of that area. He expressed his readiness to address and develop solutions to a number of problems existing in Souq Mubarakiya, with the cooperation of the relevant authorities in the country.

Meanwhile, Head of the Voluntary Work Center Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah praised the efforts exerted by the Capital Governor, who fulfilled the desire of His Highness the Amir of the country in this field visit to closely examine the problems of the people and government agencies. She said the governor observed the challenges and problems existing in Souq Mubarakiya, and asked for appropriate solutions to be developed, adding that he will form a joint committee for this purpose.
