WASHINGTON, Jan 21: Carrie Underwood showcased not only her musical talent but also her professionalism at the inauguration of President Donald Trump on Monday. Tapped to perform "America the Beautiful" during the 60th Presidential Inauguration Day Ceremony inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, Underwood arrived, ready to sing in front of Trump, his family, political figures, and other celebrities.
However, things didn't go as planned. As Underwood stood poised to begin her performance, there was a brief moment of confusion when an instrumental track played and then cut out. Realizing something was wrong, Underwood quickly assessed the situation and took matters into her own hands, deciding to improvise. In a video circulating online, she can be seen speaking with someone from the production team, saying, "I can just sing it." She then addressed the audience, saying, "If you know the words, help me out here," before starting the song a cappella.
After her performance, Underwood clapped for the audience, acknowledging those who had sung along with her, and shared a moment with former President Biden, shaking his hand. She also interacted with President Trump and Vice President JD Vance before exiting the room.
Underwood received widespread praise on social media for how she handled the situation. One user wrote on X, “That was a super awkward moment, but Carrie Underwood worked through it like a champ!” Another fan commented, “Imagine being so talented that when technology fails, you just go, ‘Fine, I’ll do it live!’ and crush it a cappella in front of thousands. Carrie Underwood doesn’t need auto-tune; auto-tune probably takes notes from her.” Others praised her resilience, with one user saying, "This pretty much sums up the spirit of America. When you're faced with a problem, you don't stop. You keep moving ahead – proudly."
Underwood, who has generally stayed out of the political spotlight, had confirmed her participation in the inauguration a week earlier. "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," she said in a statement. "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."
A representative for Underwood did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
