The Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to Kuwait Dr. Taher Al-Nazif Khater

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: The Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to Kuwait Dr. Taher Al-Nazif Khater has confirmed the availability of promising investment opportunities in his country; as well as the provision of legal protection to guarantee the rights of the investor and a safe climate for his investments.

In a recent interview with the daily, Ambassador Khater revealed that Chad has various types of natural resources like oil, rare and precious minerals such as gold and uranium, fertile agricultural land and fresh water including rivers that flow continuously throughout the year, lakes and seasonal rains which begin in June and continue until October, and huge livestock wealth. He said the Chadian government issued laws to ease the foreign investors’ entry into the country and invest freely and safely; as it guarantees legal protection for them including tax exemption, easy transfer of capital to and from Chad, and simple procedures for establishing companies -- whether in partnership with its citizens or without partners. He called on Kuwaitis to discover the beauty of his country and its cultural and natural diversity.

“We are not exaggerating if we say that Chad is the ‘pearl’ of Africa. Chad is working hard to develop its tourism infrastructure to further increase the number of tourists,” he added. He affirmed that a Kuwaiti tourist and others can easily apply for a visit visa to Chad at the embassy, indicating the traveler’s passport must be valid for at least six months. He said several airlines have flights to Chad; such as Ethiopian Airlines, which has daily flights between Kuwait and Chad via Addis Ababa, Egyptian Airlines via Cairo, Turkish Airlines and others. He said Chad is currently facing major humanitarian challenges as a result of conflicts in neighboring countries, with refugees constantly arriving in the country in search of a haven due to its strategic location in Central Africa. He added that historically, his country has been “a receiving station for refugees due to the recurring waves of asylum. It is one of the African countries hosting most refugees.

The eastern borders of Chad are currently the most crowded with refugees due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Since the outbreak of the conflict in Darfur in 2003, Chad has been receiving hundreds of thousands of Sudanese fleeing the war there. The Sudanese crisis started a year ago and the conflict escalated, so the number of refugees has increased beyond imagination.”
