ChatGPT hits 200 million weekly users worldwide

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: Since its launch nearly two years ago, ChatGPT has significantly evolved, and recent statistics provide a detailed picture of its growth and user demographics. According to Hollywood Cosette, a website specializing in internet trends, the ChatGPT language model introduced by OpenAI has made substantial strides in the AI landscape.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, which debuted in 2022, has seen remarkable growth. As of late last month, the number of active weekly users has surged to over 200 million, up from 100 million a year ago. This increase highlights the growing adoption of AI tools, reflected in OpenAI’s financial performance, with revenues soaring to $1.6 billion in 2023 from $100 million in 2022. ChatGPT’s user base is notably diverse, with a strong representation among younger individuals.

Approximately 34.8 percent of users are between 18 and 34 years old, with the 18-24 age group making up about 27.7 percent. This indicates a significant inclination towards AI technologies among younger age groups. Gender distribution among users shows that 65 percent are male, while 34 percent are female.

Additionally, ChatGPT-4 is designed to be more cautious, with an 82 percent reduction in responses to prohibited content compared to its predecessor. Geographically, the United States leads in the number of ChatGPT users, followed by India, showcasing the technology’s global acceptance and reach. The foundation of ChatGPT is its extensive dataset, encompassing 300 billion words, which underpins its capability to deliver accurate and contextually relevant responses. The advancement to GPT-4 represents a leap in enhancing accuracy and enabling multimodal interactions, such as understanding both text and images.

The following are the key statistics and features of GPT-4:

Training Data: The previous version of GPT was trained on 570 GB of data, which included 300 billion words. Of this data, 60 percent was sourced from the Internet and 16 percent from academic books. GPT-4 Capabilities: The latest GPT-4 model can generate up to 25,000 words in a single output and supports 95 languages. Notably, 93 percent of its data is in English.

Application Integration: GPT-4 integrates with various applications, including Stripe, Be My Eyes, and Image Creator, enhancing its versatility and functionality.

Academic Performance: GPT-4 has achieved impressive results in various examinations, including passing the US Bar Exam and ranking in the top 10 percent of test takers. It has also passed Wharton MBA exams, regular school exams, and medical licensing exams.

Access Restrictions: Despite its capabilities, ChatGPT is banned in many universities, schools, and colleges worldwide due to concerns about its impact on education.
