BEIJING, Jan 31 (KUNA) -- Chinese authorities announced 213 deaths and 9,692 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the coronavirus in 31 cities and provinces in China.
In its daily report, the Chinese National Health Committee said that as of Thursday evening, 43 new deaths and about 1,656 confirmed cases of the virus had been recorded.
For his part, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang stressed to reporters during his visit to one of the prevention centers, the need to accelerate the development of vaccines and anti-pneumonia drugs caused by the virus.
The situation is bad, he said, adding that the disease control institutions must enter a race against time to find out the source of the virus, its transmission mechanism and search for a vaccine against it.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration has announced its intention to arrange or rent flights to bring back Chinese travelers stranded, especially as some foreign airlines have reduced or canceled their flights to China.
China has pledged to step up surveillance measures during the anti-virus process, investigate and deal with problems that arise during the process, according to the announcement by the Chinese Anti-Corruption Agency.
