Citizenship withdrawal aligns with sovereign rights

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 13: Several economists and politicians have affirmed that the withdrawal of citizenship is a sovereign matter for the state and it does not violate human rights. They stressed the importance of holding accountable individuals who obtained citizenship through fraud and deception and those who aided them. In separate discussions with Al-Seyassah, experts highlighted the positive effects of withdrawing citizenship from those who obtained it illegally, including reducing the financial burdens on the state, particularly in areas such as housing care, salaries, allowances and other forms of support provided to citizens.

The following are opinions of some of the experts who talked to Al-Seyassah newspaper.
Dr. Sadiq Al-Bassam argued that the withdrawal of citizenship has positive economic and social impacts on the country.
Qais Al-Ghanim emphasized that such measures could solve the housing crisis and help mitigate the rise in housing requests.
Hamdan Al-Namshan countered claims that withdrawing citizenship violates human rights, asserting that the practice is not against these rights.
Ali Al-Attar called for accountability for anyone who obtained Kuwaiti citizenship through fraud.
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shukri noted that withdrawing citizenship under Article 8 aligns with the interests of Kuwaiti women.

Dr. Ahmed Salama pointed out that a Kuwaiti man marrying a female compatriot leads to better social stability and strengthens family bonds. While the experts recognized that there could be challenges, such as a decline in purchasing power and potential effects on bank profits, they agreed that the benefits of such measures outweigh the negatives, particularly in ensuring fairness and protecting the country’s resources.
