KUWAIT CITY, July 16: Today, the Ministry of Interior announced a significant update by the General Administration of Coast Guard, through its Maritime Transport Department. Effective immediately, marine vessel registration numbers will transition from Arabic numerals and letters to a streamlined numeric format. This change aligns with the institution’s strategic goal of enhancing public service accessibility and efficiency.
In a statement released by the General Department of Security Relations and Media, the ministry clarified that the new system, known as the "administrative number/vessel number," simplifies the organization and categorization of marine vessels based on their activities and licensing types. This update applies to all new registrations and renewals of ownership documentation.
For clarity, the updated system assigns numerical identifiers to various marine activities: Fishing (Administrative Number: 10), Excursion (Administrative Number: 20), Trips (Administrative Number: 30), Jet Skis (Administrative Number: 40), Government (Administrative Number: 50), Commercial (Administrative Number: 60), Diving (Administrative Number: 70), and Marine Works (Administrative Number: 80).
Explaining the structure, the ministry highlighted that each vessel's official number includes an administrative number and a unique marine piece number, facilitating precise identification in registration records.
Emphasizing compliance, the ministry called upon all marine vessel owners to adhere strictly to these regulations. Any misuse of vessel activities or licenses will result in appropriate legal actions being taken against offenders.
This initiative underscores Kuwait's commitment to modernizing administrative procedures and ensuring effective governance in maritime activities, contributing to streamlined operations and enhanced regulatory oversight.
