Kuwait dips to -3°C arctic chill

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 16: The Meteorology Department has forecasted that cold weather will persist, with daytime temperatures remaining cold and nighttime temperatures dropping to very cold levels. Frost is expected in agricultural and desert areas until next Thursday.

Dharar Al-Ali, Director of the Meteorology Department, confirmed to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the country will continue to be affected by an extension of a high-pressure system, accompanied by a cold and dry air mass. This system is further supported by significant cooling in the upper layers of the atmosphere, along with light to moderate northwesterly winds.

Al-Ali reported that weather monitoring stations recorded temperatures as low as three degrees Celsius below zero at the Salmi station, two degrees Celsius at Abdali, and six degrees Celsius at Kuwait International Airport. Given these low temperatures, the cold weather is expected to continue, with frost likely forming in some areas until Thursday.

However, Al-Ali noted that the impact of the high-pressure system will begin to decrease starting Friday evening, allowing a low-pressure system to move in. This shift will bring southeasterly winds and warmer daytime temperatures, with a chance of light, scattered rain starting Friday evening in some areas.
