BOGOTA, Feb 26: Colombian authorities were in for a startling discovery when they apprehended a man attempting to board a flight while wearing a "Narco wig"—a disguise concealing illicit drugs worth approximately 42 million Colombian Pesos (around $10,000 USD).
The suspect, a 40-year-old man from Colombia's Coffee Region, was intercepted at Rafael Núñez International Airport in Cartagena just before boarding his flight to Amsterdam. His unusual appearance raised suspicions, prompting security personnel to conduct a more thorough inspection. A security scanner ultimately revealed nine capsules of cocaine cleverly hidden beneath a thick synthetic black wig.
In a statement, the National Police confirmed that the seizure prevented the distribution of more than 400 doses of cocaine, which could have been sold for over 10,000 euros in European markets.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect was no stranger to drug trafficking. He had two prior charges related to drug smuggling, and this latest arrest is set to add another serious offense to his record. Although authorities have not yet linked him to a specific criminal organization, they strongly suspect he was working for a larger network. Investigators are now working to uncover the individuals behind the operation.
As for the wig, authorities say it won’t be passing through customs anytime soon—marking a bizarre yet significant win in Colombia’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
