KUWAIT CITY, Mar 10: As part of ongoing efforts to monitor markets and regulate prices during the holy month of Ramadan, Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajeel conducted an inspection tour of Al-Qairawan Cooperative Society. He was accompanied by the Commercial Control Sector team, Ghareeb Al-Adhan, Chairman of the Union of Cooperative Societies, Fahd Al-Kashti, Vice Chairman of the Union, and Talal Al-Kashti, Chairman of Al-Qairawan Cooperative Society.
During the visit, the Minister reviewed the availability of food stocks, pricing mechanisms, and the cooperative societies’ adherence to fair pricing practices, ensuring no unjustified price hikes. Al-Ajeel emphasized the importance of maintaining a steady supply of essential commodities in sufficient quantities, particularly given the increased demand during Ramadan. He reiterated that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will not hesitate to take legal action against any violations related to commodity pricing. He further highlighted that continuous oversight is being conducted to prevent the exploitation of heightened demand for illicit gains. The Minister added that inspection teams are working around the clock, intensifying their efforts to identify and address any violations promptly.
During the tour, Al-Ajeel engaged with officials from the cooperative societies to discuss the availability of food commodities, especially those in high demand during Ramadan, and their ability to meet consumer needs. Society officials confirmed that commodities are available in adequate quantities, with close monitoring to prevent any shortages. After the visit, Al-Ajeel urged consumers to report any violations, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring market stability. He also stressed that the Ministry will continue its market monitoring efforts throughout Ramadan to ensure the smooth flow of commodities and maintain price stability.
