BAKU, Nov 12:  The COP29 UN Climate Conference has begun in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with the participation of the representative of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

According to Azerbaijan's news agency, AZERTAC, the conference was inaugurated with remarks from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. The two leaders welcomed an array of dignitaries, including heads of state and government, along with officials from various global organizations.

The COP29 conference, which runs until November 22, is centered on fostering international collaboration to combat climate change. It also aims to implement actionable measures aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, which focuses on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and financial support.

The Paris Agreement, signed in 2016 by 196 countries, is a landmark international treaty aimed at addressing the global climate crisis. It sets a framework for countries to collectively limit global temperature rise and reduce carbon emissions, with an emphasis on supporting developing nations in their climate efforts.

COP29 marks a crucial step in ongoing global efforts to tackle climate change and meet the Paris Agreement's ambitious goals.
