KUWAIT CITY, March 15: In an atmosphere of love and unity, members of the Egyptian community in Kuwait -- both Muslims and Christians -- gathered for the ‘Ghabqa of Love’. This is an annual tradition reflecting the spirit of unity and solidarity among the people of one nation. High-level officials and religious figures attended the event. In his speech at the event, Egyptian Ambassador Osama Shaltout affirmed the strong fraternal ties that unite the Egyptians and Kuwaitis. He praised the tradition of the Coptic Church in bringing together the Muslims and Christians in this annual event -- a manifestation of national and human cohesion.
Shaltout pointed out that the Muslim fast during Ramadan coinciding with the Coptic Great Lent this year created a special festive atmosphere, emphasizing that these moments bring hope and happiness. He said Egypt is moving forward with its development plans as part of the ‘New Republic’ vision, in addition to the implementation of national projects that contribute to economic and social advancement. He affirmed the interest of his country in developing Egyptian human resources through the improvement of education and health services, as well as the creation of new job opportunities. At the end of his speech, he thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for supporting the Egyptian community, while wishing the State of Kuwait continued security and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Father Bigol Anba Bishoy, a priest at the Egyptian Coptic Church in the country, welcomed the attendees with words that reflected the spirit of brotherhood and love that unites everyone under one roof. He confirmed that Kuwait always embraces everyone with its large heart; indicating the ‘Ghabqa of Love’ conveys a message of peace and brotherhood, social cohesion, and coexistence between various religions and cultures in the country. He said “Throughout its history, Kuwait has proven it is an oasis of peace and coexistence, where everyone gathers for various religious and national occasions, which instills the values of love and brotherhood among all of its residents.”
Moreover, Musaed Al-Zamel welcomed the attendees and expressed his happiness over attending such an event, which embodies the values of brotherhood and tolerance -- values that have been deeply rooted in Kuwaiti society since ancient times. He asserted that Kuwait has always been a beacon of culture and dialogue among civilizations, having been selected as the Capital of Arab Culture for the second time and the Capital of Arab Media -- a proof of its pioneering role in promoting human values. He then greeted everyone on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, while Dr. Wasfi Aziz opened the gathering with poetic verses expressing the spirituality of the event.
