Court acquits 6 Kuwaitis, including security officer, a Canadian, and 19 Syrian expats in bribery case

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 22: The Criminal Court has acquitted all defendants in one of the largest bribery and corruption cases, which involved a security officer, the secretariat of former MPs, and others, citing the “maliciousness of the accusation.”

The Public Prosecution had referred the case to the Criminal Court, where 26 individuals—6 Kuwaitis, a Canadian, and 19 Syrian expatriates—were accused of corruption. The charges included bribery and forging expatriate visa transactions, with each transaction allegedly costing 2,000 dinars.

The defense attorney for the seventh accused, lawyer Ali Matar Al-Wawan, argued that the evidence did not support a charge of criminal participation or conspiracy. He pointed out that the case lacked definitive proof to substantiate the accusations against his client or to secure a conviction. As a result, the court acquitted all defendants.
