Court sentences woman for 5 years for religious offense and sectarian contempt on social media

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: The Criminal Court sentenced a female Twitter user to five years in prison and imposed a fine of 10,000 dinars for insulting the Prophet Muhammad, (May Peace and Blessings be Upon Him), as well as His wives and family, mocking the noble Hadiths, and expressing contempt for the Shiite community in Kuwait.

In its ruling, the court affirmed that the defendant had committed the offenses attributed to her, noting that the public had access to the content she posted. The court concluded that her intent was to offend the person of the Prophet Muhammad, who is revered for His faultless character and unmatched status. The ruling emphasized that the Prophet (PBUH) holds a unique position, honored by God Almighty, and His sanctity must be preserved. Furthermore, the court highlighted the offense toward the Mothers of the Believers, who are held in high regard, as well as the Prophet's (PBUH) pure and honorable family, may God be pleased with them. The defendant was also found guilty of expressing contempt for the followers of the Shiite sect in Kuwait by using language too offensive to be repeated.
