Customs foils smuggling of narcotics and blocks illegal border entry

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: The Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that the General Administration of Customs had successfully thwarted the smuggling of large quantities of narcotics and prevented an illegal infiltration attempt.

In a press statement, the Interior Ministry explained that as part of the General Administration of Customs' ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling, customs officers at the air cargo and express mail search and investigation departments seized four parcels arriving from several countries. These parcels contained 550 grams of marijuana, 37,000 capsules of the narcotic Lyrica, 780 narcotic capsules, and 7.5 kilograms of hashish.

The ministry also revealed that customs officers at Kuwait International Airport (T1) had thwarted another smuggling attempt, intercepting 1,200 Tramadol pills and 210 grams of marijuana.

Furthermore, the Northern Ports Customs Administration at Shuwaikh Port successfully prevented the smuggling of approximately 1.8 million Captagon pills, which were cleverly concealed inside pieces of furniture.

In addition, customs officers at Nuwaiseeb Port foiled an attempt by an individual to illegally enter the country, as he was found hiding inside a car trunk.

The Ministry of Interior stated that all seized items and the suspects involved were referred to the relevant authorities for further legal action. It emphasized that the General Administration of Customs continues its efforts to safeguard the country from smuggling and illegal infiltration, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of the nation and its society.
