KUWAIT CITY, Jan 29: The Ministry of Interior announced that the General Administration of Customs in Air Cargo, in collaboration with the Search and Investigation Department at Express Mail, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle large quantities of narcotics hidden in parcels arriving from several countries.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry explained that approximately 35,000 capsules of the narcotic substance LYrica were seized. These capsules were distributed across two different parcels, with one containing 32,000 capsules and the other 1,800 capsules. Additionally, the Customs Department at the Abdali border crossing arrested an individual in possession of 1,067 capsules, which he was attempting to smuggle through the crossing.

Furthermore, 1,474 grams of hashish were confiscated in two separate air freight parcels—one containing 1,074 grams from a European country, and the other 400 grams from an Asian country.

At the Nuwaiseeb border crossing, the Customs Department arrested an individual in a suspicious condition, who was found with 2.3 grams of the narcotic substance crystal meth, which he attempted to smuggle through the crossing.

The statement emphasized that all seized items and suspects have been referred to the competent authorities for necessary legal action. The Ministry of Interior reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the country from drug smuggling and illegal infiltration, ensuring the security and safety of Kuwait and its society.
