KUWAIT CITY, July 14: Under the weight of the economic and financial repercussions resulting from the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Cabinet has decided to cancel its two previous decisions regarding the project to construct, operate and maintain the Al-Dabdaba solar power plant for the oil sector, reports Al- Seyassah daily.
In its statement issued after yesterday’s meeting, the Cabinet referred to its recent decision to what it described as “the current conditions the world is experiencing from an outbreak of the emerging coronavirus and its impact on global oil and financial markets and in accordance with the recommendation of the Ministerial Economic Committee”, and the desire to focus on the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation on its priorities for the next stage and to maintain its position in the global oil markets, the Cabinet has taken the decision to cancel the project.
The Cabinet has mandated the Ministry of Electricity and Water in coordination with the relevant authorities to take the measures it deems appropriate towards meeting the country’s future needs for sustainable energy.
On the other hand, the Cabinet urged the government supervisory bodies to expedite the preparation of the best ways to translate the directives of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled regarding protecting public funds and fighting corruption and the rule of law and work to activate the necessary coordination with other oversight bodies to prevent the causes of corruption and embody serious cooperation between government oversight bodies according to clear mechanisms.
