CAIRO, Nov 21: The school team clinched a total of four medals, securing three bronze and one silver, on the inaugural day of the Arab School Sports Championship held in Cairo. The detailed outcomes unfolded as follows: a silver medal in the relay comprising Hussein Ahmed, Hassan Tariq, Khaled Bashar, and Abdullah Al-Sanasiri, and three bronze medals earned by Hassan Tariq in the 100 freestyle, Hussein Al-Otaibi in the 50 backstroke, and Jassim Al-Tahhou in the 100 breaststroke. Notably, Hussein Ahmed set a new record with a remarkable 1.01 time in the 100 freestyle event.
Expressing his perspective on the fierce competition, the team's coach, Abbas Qali, emphasized the strength of the contests, particularly highlighting the debut of Al-Ittihad in international competitions. He commended the athletes for showcasing their capability in the tournament and expressed optimism about securing more medals in the upcoming days, culminating in a triumphant conclusion.
Faisal Al-Maqseed, President of the Kuwait School Sports Federation, shed light on the comprehensive nature of the Federation’s "Our Talents in Our Schools" initiative. This project encompasses technical, administrative, and scientific dimensions, enjoying national support from the political leadership and the Kuwaiti government, as endorsed by the Ministry of Education and the Public Authority for Sports. Al-Maqseed noted the project's success in recent times, aligning with the Union's strategy, and emphasized the positive impact of participating in the Arab School Sports Championship in preparing students for competitive environments.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Rubaian, Director of the Development and Training Department of the School Union, underscored the distinctive position of the Kuwaiti School Union as the sole union in the Arab world with a well-defined strategy and action plan featuring specific timelines.
