JAIPUR, Nov 23: In a startling incident in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, four doctors, including the principal medical officer, were suspended after a man declared dead began showing signs of life moments before his cremation. The 25-year-old man, identified as Rohitash, started breathing and moving while lying on the pyre at the cremation ground. Witnesses immediately called an ambulance, and he was rushed to the district hospital, where he is now undergoing treatment in the ICU. His condition is reported to be stable.

Rohitash, an orphan who is deaf and mute, resides in an orphanage. He was admitted to the BDK Hospital in Jhunjhunu after experiencing health complications. On Thursday around 2 p.m., doctors declared him dead. Following the completion of formalities, his body was kept in the mortuary and later transported to the crematorium.  As the final rites were about to begin, Rohitash’s body began moving, causing panic among those present. Quick action by attendees ensured that he was rushed back to the hospital for medical care.

Swift Action by AuthoritiesDistrict Collector Ramavtar Meena acted promptly, suspending Principal Medical Officer Dr. Yogesh Jakhar and three other doctors—Dr. Navneet Meel and Dr. Sandeep Pachar—who had certified Rohitash as deceased. An investigation committee has been formed to probe the incident, and a detailed report has been requested from the principal medical officer. The Secretary of the Medical Department has been informed, and further actions are being considered. Transfers During SuspensionThe suspended doctors have been assigned new headquarters during the suspension period. Dr. Sandeep Pachar will report to the CMHO in Jaisalmer, Dr. Yogesh Jakhar to CMHO Barmer, and Dr. Navneet Meel to CMHO Jalore. This incident has raised concerns about medical negligence and the accuracy of death certifications in government hospitals. Authorities are ensuring a thorough investigation to prevent such cases in the future.
