Al-Qadsia player makes a goal attempt as an opponent watches.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: Today marks a critical juncture for the "Al-Kuwait" and Al-Qadsia teams as they enter the final round of the 26th Asian Club Handball Championship's preliminary phase hosted by  Al-Qadsia at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex, the tournament concludes next Monday. In a challenging and pivotal match, Al-Kuwait faces Al-Najma, the defending champion, who promises high-stakes competition, while Al-Gharafa enjoys an easy match against the Golden Angel of India at 12:00 noon. The second group features Al-Qadsia facing off against the Indian team SAI at 6:00 pm, with the Iraqi Army playing against Lebanese Shabab Sidon at 2:00 pm. Later at 4:00 pm, Al-Sharjah of the Emirates competes against Al-Arabi of Qatar.

In the race to qualify for the semi-finals, Khaleej Club of Saudi Arabia secured its spot with a perfect score of 8 points in the first group. However, the second qualification spot is contested among three teams: Kuwait in second place with 4 points, Al-Najma in third, and Al-Gharafa of Qatar in fourth after a 31-27 victory over Al-Najma.

If Kuwait wins or draws against Al-Najma, the second spot will be secured regardless of other results. However, if Al-Najma defeats Kuwait and Al-Gharafa prevails over Indian Golden, the three teams will be tied at 4 points. In such a scenario, direct confrontations between the teams take precedence, followed by goal difference to determine the second qualifier.

In the second group, Al-Qadsia, the third host, secured a spot in the semi-finals with 6 points. They clinched victory over Al-Arabi of Qatar the day before yesterday, overcoming a goal deficit in the last seconds. Al-Sharjah of the Emirates, leading with 8 points, has the opportunity to advance by winning against Al-Arabi. However, if they lose, all three teams will participate in direct confrontation calculations, followed by goal difference to determine the qualifiers.

Expressing his joy over the victory against Al-Arabi Qatar, Al-Qadsia coach Walid Salmin emphasized the significance of spirit and determination in handball. He highlighted the team's focus on technical aspects, preparation, and the restoration of the players' fighting spirit. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for the team's continued success.
