Need to set up public authority for tourism: academicKUWAIT CITY, July 6, (KUNA): Developing Kuwait’s tourism sector will lead naturally to the development of the national economy, said a Kuwaiti academic Thursday. Professor at Kuwait University’s (KU) Industrial and Management Systems Engineering Department, Dr Tariq A. Al- Dowaisan said in a specialized study that the legislative and executive authorities in Kuwait should consider the establishment of a public authority for tourism similar to the ones in neighboring countries.Dr Al-Dowaisan added that it was important for Kuwait to facilitate travel procedures for those eager to visit the country. Kuwait has the essential elements to develop its tourism sector, but this goal will not be achieved unless the powers that be take the necessary steps to launch the country in the right direction, said the Kuwaiti academic. The current international rankings showed that Kuwait was lingering behind tourism-wise; therefore, the Gulf country must work on developing its traveling policies, natural resources, and infrastructure in order to usher in an age of economic development within tourism. In line with the Kuwaiti leadership’s desire, the (Kuwait 2035) development vision was launched to transform the country to a regional and international commercial and economic hub.According to the vision, some 90,000 jobs will be created within the tourism sector until the year 2035. Tourism in Kuwait provides around two percent to the national economy through direct and indirect investments, revealed statistics from the tourism department in the Ministry of Information. There are plans to bring the number to around four percent and more.
