DOHA, Qatar, Nov 6, (Agencies): In an effort to support the rights of the Palestinian people and amplify their voices against injustice and oppression, Doha Film Institute is showcasing the series "Palestinian Voices" as part of the global event "Days of Palestinian Cinema." These screenings aim to highlight the power of cinema in balancing the narratives of Palestinian filmmakers on the world stage.
The series, which started at the beginning of November, opened with a free screening of "The Time That Remains" by director Elia Suleiman in partnership with Palestine Film. This event commemorates the dark anniversary of the infamous Balfour Declaration of 1917, which had devastating consequences for the people of Palestine.
The public screenings, which take place at the Katara Cultural Village Drama Theatre, feature eight films from Palestine. These films seek to break the censorship and obscurity placed on the voices of Palestinian filmmakers, offering a platform to present their authentic stories, promote solidarity, and uphold common human values.
The films included in the program are "The Time That Remains" (2013), a poetic documentary by director Elia Suleiman, "Divine Intervention" (2002) by Elia Suleiman, "3000 Nights" (2015) by Mai Masri, "The Roof" (2006) by Kamal Jafari, and "Dégradé" (2015) by Arab Nasser and Tarzan Nasser, among others.
These films are not just narratives; they are calls for justice, recognition, and a way to preserve the stories of the Palestinian people in their struggle for life and to make their voices heard around the world.
At a time when the global human conscience is deeply affected by the suffering of the Palestinian people, the Doha Film Institute expresses full solidarity with this community and their cause. In times filled with great challenges, where our voices are distorted, and our stories are hidden, it is essential to ensure that the stories of the Palestinian people are represented fairly and powerfully. The "Palestinian Voices" series embodies their stories, struggles, determination, and spirit through the lenses of filmmakers who belong to this nation.
This series serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of the Palestinian people in their quest for justice and their unwavering resolve to convey their voices to the world.
