KUWAIT CITY, Aug 1: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi emphasized the critical importance of blood donation in saving lives and boosting the bloodstock at the Central Blood Bank. He urged citizens and residents to donate blood, highlighting its necessity for cancer patients, surgeries, traffic accident victims, and blood exchange cases.
This appeal came during a press statement by Dr. Al-Awadhi following the launch of the campaign "Together Forever, a Wall for the Homeland 9," organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the military and civil society institutions. The campaign marks the 34th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
Dr. Al-Awadhi visited the blood bank to oversee the campaign's launch and was briefed on several critical medical cases. One patient in the blood exchange unit, preparing for a liver transplant, requires about six blood bags daily. Another patient needs a daily blood exchange to stay alive, underscoring the continuous need for blood donations.
Director of the Central Blood Bank, Dr. Reem Al-Radwan, noted that the campaign honors the military corps and all who sacrificed during the Iraqi invasion. She highlighted the involvement of civil society institutions in blood donation efforts. Despite the bloodstock being stable, the bank continues to welcome donors and organize donation campaigns due to the one-month expiration date of blood.
The "Together Forever, a Wall for the Homeland" campaign, now in its ninth consecutive year, aims to remind the nation of its cohesion and the sacrifices of the martyrs. The campaign involves the military corps, including the army, police, national guard, and General Fire Force, along with various civil society institutions and sectors. The goal is to promote humanitarian and voluntary work, enhance social solidarity, and spread the culture of donation.
