NEW DELHI, Sept 7: The General Assembly of the Asian Olympic Council will convene this afternoon in New Delhi, India, to elect the Executive Council members for the 2024-2028 term. The elections will be overseen by former Justice Minister and lawyer Dr. Muhammad  Bouzabr. Key positions to be filled include the President of the Asian Olympic Council, five Vice Presidents representing East, Southeast, South, Central, and West Asia, as well as five female members from the same regions. Additionally, the President and members of the Council's Integrity and Ethics Committee will be elected.

This meeting follows the constitutional amendments approved by the General Assembly on May 11, 2024, in Bangkok. The amendments reduced the Executive Office membership from 43 to 11 and introduced the election of two athletes through the Asian Games athletes.

Member states are anticipating transparent and fair elections, with hopes of advancing Asian sports and achieving greater success in the future. Furthermore, the Asian Olympic Council plans to appoint Professor of Law Dr. Mohammed Al-Mutairi as Chairman of the Ethics Committee. Notably, the Asian Olympic Council has approved Raja Randhir Singh, the candidate from the Indian Olympic Committee, as Chairman by acclamation, and Dr. Thani Al-Kuwari from the Qatar Olympic Committee as Vice-Chairman for West Asia.
