DUBAI, Oct 21, (Agencies): Dubai is currently adorned with the exquisite artistry of calligraphy, as it hosts its first-ever Calligraphy Biennale. Organized by Dubai Culture and Arts, this celebration of calligraphic artistry extends until October 31 and serves as a testament to the diversity and beauty of calligraphy from around the world.

The biennale unfolds across various locations within Dubai, making it accessible to local residents and visitors. The event, according to Fatma Al-Qurashi, reflects Dubai's dedication to preserving and promoting the art of calligraphy, firmly establishing the city as a global hub for culture, creativity, and talent. "The biennale exemplifies the unifying power of art, bridging cultural gaps and fostering understanding among people from diverse backgrounds. It underscores the global significance of Arabic calligraphy as an art form that transcends boundaries and resonates with audiences worldwide."

Featuring 19 exhibitions across more than 35 venues in Dubai, the biennale showcases calligraphy in eight languages, created by artists hailing from various regions, including the Middle East, Africa, the Americas, and Asia.

In conjunction with the biennale, the 11th edition of the Dubai International Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition is hosted at the Etihad Museum. This exhibition spotlights over 75 artworks crafted by approximately 50 calligraphers from 17 different nationalities, presented through the collaborative efforts of Dubai Culture, Dubai Collection, and Art Dubai.

The event underscores the evolution of calligraphy as a vibrant and contemporary art form, shedding its traditional constraints and serving as a dynamic platform for artistic expression.

Above all, the Dubai Calligraphy Biennale seeks to encourage cross-cultural dialogue, employing calligraphy as a universal language that enables artists and audiences to explore the intersections of diverse cultures and traditions.
