PARIS, Nov 15, (Agencies): Warner Music, in collaboration with Edith Piaf’s estate, announced on Tuesday that a forthcoming biopic on the legendary French singer’s life, titled “Edith,” will incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) to bring Piaf’s voice back to narrate her own story. Currently, in the final stages of development, the film is set to showcase an “innovative and revolutionary technological project” using AI to recreate both her voice and image, marking 60 years since Piaf’s passing. However, no specific release date has been disclosed.

This technological endeavor follows the recent success of the Beatles’ track “Now And Then,” which, with the assistance of AI, achieved the band’s first UK number one single in 54 years. In that instance, AI played a role in isolating the late John Lennon’s vocals from a 1978 recording, and the surviving Beatles completed the song last year.

For “Edith,” AI will be fed numerous voice and image clips, some spanning over 80 years, capturing Piaf’s distinct style and aiming to “further enhance the authenticity and emotional impact of her story.” The film, spanning 90 minutes, will traverse between Paris and New York from 1920 to 1960, with Piaf’s voice narrating various facets of her life, including previously unknown aspects. Original recordings will be utilized for her greatest hits, ensuring an authentic portrayal of the iconic singer’s legacy.
