Egyptian actor Amir El-Masry

CAIRO, Nov 2, (Agencies): The British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) has chosen Egyptian actor Amir El-Masry as a contender for the prestigious Best Supporting Performance Award for his role in the film "In Camera."

Amir El-Masry took to his official social media accounts to share his thoughts on this nomination, expressing, "I'm honored to be nominated for the Best Supporting Performance Award for my role in 'In Camera.' While it's good news, the state of the world weighs heavily on my mind."

It's worth noting that Amir El-Masry received widespread critical acclaim for his role in the British film "In Camera," which made its debut at the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival as part of the Proxima competition.

Film critic Guy Lodge, writing in Variety Magazine, praised the film but also noted that it contained numerous intriguing ideas, some of which needed more exploration. He specifically pointed out Amir El-Masry's superb portrayal of Conrad, a fashionable menswear stylist, who strikes a balance between charisma and self-absorption. Lodge highlighted how Conrad's character contrasts with the more introspective Aden, making Amir El-Masry's performance a notable standout.

Elena Lazic, in her review for Cineuropa, described Amir El-Masry's character as the most conventionally behaved individual in the film, but also the most artificial. She lauded his portrayal of a smooth fashion designer who uses food as a means of signaling something deeper about his lifestyle. This contrast between Amir El-Masry's character and the rest of the cast added depth to the film.

Ben Nicholson, writing for The Film Verdict magazine, commended Amir El-Masry's performance, particularly highlighting his role as Conrad, the effortlessly charismatic fashion industry professional who stands in stark contrast to Aden's reserved demeanor.

"In Camera" follows Aden, a young actor trapped in a cycle of challenging auditions. Faced with numerous rejections, Aden embarks on a journey to discover a new role for himself. Written and directed by Naqqash Khalid in his directorial debut, the film boasts a cast that includes Amir El-Masry, Nabhaan Rizwan, Rory Fleck Byrne, and Hussina Raja.
