Electronic inventory program enhances food security in Kuwait: Minister

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, emphasized on Wednesday the significance of Kuwait’s electronic strategic inventory program in bolstering food security and sustaining essential resources.

In a statement to KUNA, Al-Huwailah shared that she presented an overview of the program at the weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday. The program, she explained, aims to build an integrated system linking cooperative societies to create a central database for Kuwait’s strategic food reserves.

Al-Huwailah highlighted that the program is a key measure for ensuring transparency and efficiency in managing inventory levels, allowing for accurate tracking and optimized resource allocation. This contributes to quicker strategic decision-making during crises.

The program provides cooperative societies with updated inventory data through automated links with the union, facilitating balance monitoring and ongoing need assessments. It will be integrated with several government bodies, including the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Interior, Civil Defense, Ministry of Social Affairs, and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, ensuring a comprehensive approach to managing the strategic stock. Other agencies may also be involved as needed to enhance the program’s effectiveness.

Al-Huwailah stated that this initiative aligns with sustainable development efforts, supporting coordination among cooperative societies in compliance with relevant laws and decisions. This approach ensures the sufficient and sustainable availability of essential food products and resources.

She noted the program’s economic benefits, which include improving food resource management, reducing financial waste through organized storage based on precise data, and enabling more efficient investment allocation.

Al-Huwailah added that the program also aids in stabilizing basic commodity prices by tracking stock levels and coordinating distribution, which helps balance supply and demand while minimizing inflation risks.

She expressed gratitude to all entities involved in supporting and implementing this program, which represents a major advancement in the monitoring and distribution of Kuwait’s strategic stock. (KUNA)
