Employees Must Request Leave Before Eid Holiday Is Declared

KUWAIT CITY, March 19: Sources at the Civil Service Bureau have stated that the Eid Al-Fitr holiday circular will designate Sunday, March 30, as the start of the holiday, regardless of whether it is confirmed as the first day of Eid or the last day of Ramadan.

The sources clarified that if Sunday, March 30, is confirmed as the first day of Eid, the holiday will span three consecutive days: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (March 30, 31, and April 1). Employees will then resume work on Wednesday, April 2.

When asked whether employees can take additional leave on Wednesday and Thursday, April 2 and 3, if Eid is confirmed to begin on Sunday, March 30, the sources stated, “Employees may submit a leave request for Wednesday and Thursday before the holiday begins, but not after. Approval must be obtained from their direct supervisor, and the leave will be counted as part of their periodic leave entitlement.”

Regarding sick leave, the sources emphasized that employees must follow standard procedures, including obtaining a doctor’s approval to justify the two-day absence. They also noted that emergency leave is limited to one day and cannot be extended to two consecutive days.

The sources warned that unauthorized absences would have consequences, particularly affecting the employee’s performance evaluation. Management reserves the right to investigate such cases and deduct the absence from the employee’s leave balance.

In the event that Monday, March 31, is confirmed as the first day of Eid, the holiday will begin on Sunday, March 30, as the last day of Ramadan. The official Eid holidays would then be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (March 31, April 1, and April 2). Thursday, April 3, would be considered a rest day, falling between two official holidays, with work resuming on Sunday, April 6.

Automation of Re-Nomination Mechanism

In a related development, the Civil Service Bureau has announced the automation of a new mechanism allowing citizens to re-nominate themselves for the same government agency in cases of rejection or resignation without requiring a review by the Bureau. This move aims to streamline processes and improve efficiency in government employment procedures.

Further details regarding the Eid holiday and leave policies will be communicated to employees as the dates are confirmed.
