KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29:  The Environment Public Authority launched an inspection campaign on shellfish (Clams) collectors on some of Kuwait's coastal areas. To which the violations were issued for collecting shellfish, oysters and shells on the beaches of Kuwait and Kuwaiti islands which was against violation of Article 100 of environmental law. 


The minimum penalty set by the environmental law for collecting these shells is 250 dinars and reaches 5,000 dinars, EPA has warned everyone to abide by the environmental protection law in order to preserve the environment and avoid penalties.

Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the authority, Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, said that while field tours on beaches and islands some people were observed collecting these shellfish without knowing how important it is for marine life, reports Al Rai. Collecting this shellfish has become a widespread phenomenon in Kuwait among citizens and expats.
