Expat Grocery Worker Critically Injured as Robber Drags Him with Car

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 22: The Public Prosecution has instructed the Jahra Investigations Unit to arrest an unidentified person who not only stole items from a mobile grocery store but also dragged the expatriate grocery worker after deliberately pinning him into the car window and drove for about 30 meters, causing severe injuries to the expatriate who is now confined at the intensive care unit in Jahra Hospital and is said to be in critical condition. The case has been tentatively classified as robbery by using force, which will change in the event the victim dies.

According to a security source, the Operations Unit at the Ministry of Interior received a report about an expatriate, born in 1974, who was rescued from a public road. The report stated that the expatriate suffered from abrasions in the face, scalp and right leg , bruises in the legs and left knee and injuries in other parts of the body. It added that the victim was rushed to Jahra Hospital. The source confirmed that police officers were dispatched to the hospital where they saw the victim in a vegetative state.

The source revealed that an expatriate born in 1981 informed Sulaibiya Police Station about the incident. The witness narrated: I was waiting in my vehicle when I noticed a golden four-wheel drive vehicle parked in front of the grocery store where the victim works. When the order was delivered, an argument ensued between the suspect and the grocery worker. The suspect closed the car window and the worker clung to it. The suspect drove for about 30 meters, dragging the victim, and then opened the window suddenly, so the worker fell on the ground. The witness added that the accused fled to an unknown location. He provided police with the plate number of the suspect’s vehicle. In collaboration with the General Traffic Department, police found out that the suspect is wanted by law for a misdemeanor theft case filed at the same police station. The deputy public prosecutor was informed about this development and investigations are ongoing to arrest the suspect.
