KUWAIT CITY, Nov 24: Hawalli detectives have resolved multiple cases involving two expatriates accused of repeatedly scamming restaurants to obtain free meals. The suspects would order food by phone, provide a delivery location behind their residence, and then block the delivery driver’s number after receiving the food. The scheme unraveled when an Bedoun operating a restaurant in Hawally filed a complaint about an unpaid order of two meals worth 7 dinars. The case, registered as Theft (No. 512/2024 Misdemeanors, Maidan Hawally), was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department.
Investigators traced the phone number used in the scam to one of the suspects, who was apprehended in Adailiya. He identified his accomplice, who had received the food, and blocked the driver’s number. Both admitted to orchestrating similar scams, ordering meals and exploiting delivery drivers by promising online payment before cutting off communication. A delivery driver from the complainant’s restaurant confirmed the identity of one of the suspects in a legal lineup. The suspects now face charges for their repeated fraudulent actions.
