Extreme Heat to Grip Kuwait by Day, Warm Nights Ahead

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: Director of the Kuwait Meteorological Department Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi announced on Thursday that Kuwait will experience extremely hot weather during the day and warm to hot temperatures at night throughout the weekend.

The seasonal Indian depression is expected to bring light to moderate northwesterly winds, which may occasionally become active and create dusty conditions, particularly in desert areas. He explained that the maximum temperature is expected to range between 47 and 49 degrees Celsius.

The sea conditions will vary from light to moderate with wave heights reaching two to six feet. Tonight, the weather will remain hot to warm, with light to moderate northwesterly winds blowing at speeds of 10-35 kilometers per hour. The minimum temperature is forecasted to be between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius. The sea is expected to remain calm to moderately wavy, with wave heights ranging from two to four feet.

On Friday, the weather will be hot, with northwesterly winds that may become moderate to strong, reaching speeds of 25-60 km/h and potentially causing dust in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to be between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius, and the sea will have moderate to high waves, reaching heights of three to seven feet.

Friday evening will continue to be hot, with light to moderate northwesterly winds blowing at 15-35 km/h and a chance of suspended dust in some locations. The minimum temperature is predicted to be between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius, with the sea experiencing light to moderate waves ranging from two to four feet.

The weather on Saturday will continue to be hot, with light to moderate northwesterly winds that may occasionally become active, reaching speeds of 15-40 km/h, and some dust in exposed areas. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius, with the sea remaining light to moderately wavy, with waves occasionally reaching two to six feet.

On Saturday evening, the weather will remain hot, with winds shifting from northwesterly to variable and blowing at speeds of 8-30 km/h. The minimum temperature will be between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius, and the sea will have light waves ranging from one to two feet. The series of scheduled power outages in residential areas due to high temperatures and the need for emergency maintenance on some units has continued for the third consecutive day. This has led to an increase in electricity consumption, with loads reaching 17,050 megawatts as of 2:30 pm on Thursday.

Informed sources from the ministry urged both citizens and residents to conserve electricity during peak hours from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm to avoid overloading the electrical network, adding that high consumption during these hours can strain the transmission and distribution stations, and potentially cause damage or malfunction.

Reducing energy consumption during the ongoing heat wave will help minimize outages and manage the load more effectively until temperatures decrease.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced yesterday that it may need to implement power cuts in various residential areas due to emergency maintenance on some electricity generation units.

The affected areas include:
- Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential Area: Parts of Sector C
- West Abdullah Mubarak: Parts of Block 6
- Rumaithiya: Parts of Blocks 3, 4, and 5
- Salwa: Parts of Blocks 1 and 2
- Bida’a - Farwaniya: Blocks 3, 4, 5, and 6
- Dhaher: Blocks 1, 2, 5, and 6

These measures are being taken to ensure the stability and reliability of the electrical system across the country.
