KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: Farwaniya Hospital has recently conducted an advanced microsurgery to treat glaucoma, led by Dr. Abdullah Al Kandari, a specialist in the department. The procedure involved the implantation of the cutting-edge EyeWatch System device, one of the latest global technologies for glaucoma treatment. This marks a significant advancement in microsurgery for this severe eye condition, according to Dr. Yousef Al Haraz, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at the hospital.

Dr. Yousef Al-Harz emphasized that these surgeries align with the Ministry of Health's commitment to incorporating the latest medicines, consumables, and surgical tools to enhance doctors' capabilities and improve the quality of health services.

Dr. Al-Kandari highlighted the device’s exceptional ability to precisely control eye fluid drainage, which allows for more effective and efficient management of eye pressure. Initial studies suggest that the device significantly reduces eye pressure and minimizes potential post-surgery complications. Moreover, it appears to greatly decrease the need for eye drops, with a reduction of up to 90 percent, and about 40 percent of patients being able to forgo drops entirely.
