KUWAIT CITY, July 21: The Misdemeanor Court of Cassation upheld the verdict issued by a lower court, which sentenced the fashionista Fatima Al-Momen to three years imprisonment with hard labor and the withdrawal of her driver’s license for one year, due to a traffic accident that resulted in the death of two people. The court referred the civil lawsuit to the concerned circuit.

The Public Prosecution had charged her with the following:

(1) Crossing the red light, by article 33-bis of law No. 52/2001 that amended some provisions of decree-law No. 67/1976 regarding traffic.

(2) Exceeding the maximum speed limit set by article 1/33-bis of law No. 52/2001 which amended some provisions of decree-law No. 67/1976 regarding traffic.

(3) Driving a vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, by article 38 of law No. 52/2001 which amended some provisions of decree law No. 67/1976 regarding traffic.

4) Causing an accident that damaged private and public properties, by article 1/3.4 of law No. 52/2001 amended some provisions of decree-law No. 67/1976 regarding traffic.

(5) Manslaughter, by article 154 of the Penal Code.

(6) Wrongful injury per article 164 of the Penal Code.

(7) Driving a vehicle with invalid insurance, following article 14/35 of law No. 52/2001 that amended some provisions of decree-law No. 67/1976 regarding traffic.

(8) Driving a vehicle without a driving license, by article 4/36 of law No. 52/2001 which amended some provisions of decree law No. 67/1976 regarding traffic.

(9) Driving a vehicle recklessly and negligently, following article 2/33 of law No. 52/2001 that amended some provisions of decree-law No. 67/1976 regarding traffic. According to the case file, the tragic accident occurred on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at exactly 3:17am at the intersection of Soor Street and King Fahad Bin Abdulaziz Road. It resulted in the death of two people and the injuries to two others accompanying them. The injured victims were referred to a hospital where they are still receiving treatment. The incident was registered as misdemeanor traffic case No. 86/2023 at Abdullah Al-Salem Police Station.
