KUWAIT CITY, Aug 18: Feeding birds at roundabouts, in public squares and other places, especially pigeons, has suddenly become the talk of the town because some feel it disturbs the environment and distorts the general view of Kuwait, reports Al-Rai daily.

They also say the need of the hour is to take into account public interest since the clerics view the practice as taking one closer to God, while the Municipality calls it an uncivilized manifestation, which has subsequent effects since the State incurs considerable money in providing labor and mechanisms to clean the environmentally and visually polluted site, especially in and around the Kuwait City.

The road works supervisor in the Mubarak Al-Kabir Municipality branch said several people have complained about the practice of feeding birds in the square, but the difficulty is nailing the people who feed those birds. In addition to distorting the landscape and the feeding place of birds also acts as incubator for insects and germs and add to this the unpleasant odor that is spreading in the area as a result of food exposure to sunlight.

The top management in the Municipality has directed all the departments of cleanliness and road works in the branches of the provinces, to remove dirt from the roundabouts and sidewalks, and is doing its best to clean all sites from where complaints have been received, and although this is an additional work in addition to its role in the follow-up work to lift garbage and cleaning streets, and public squares.

On the other hand, Sheikh Nasser Shams Eddin stressed that giving food and water for the birds and animals is pleasing to God. Shams Eddin told the daily there are things to be taken into account when feeding and providing water to birds and animals, the most important thing is the public morals and not to put harm in the way of Muslims and people.
