Fibre optic network vandalism was reported across six French regions.

PARIS, France, July 29: Several parts of France have experienced sabotage of fibre optic networks, according to police reports. This incident follows a series of coordinated arson attacks on high-speed train services that occurred just hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympics, causing significant disruption to travel for hundreds of thousands of people.

An ultra-left activist was arrested at a railway site following the sabotage attacks on Friday. Authorities are investigating potential links between these attacks and an 'anti-Olympics' movement.

The recent acts of vandalism have impacted six areas across France, although Paris—where the Olympics are mainly hosted—has not been affected. The sabotage involved cutting cables in electrical cabinets operated by telephone providers SFR and Bouygues.

Reports indicate that the outages primarily affected landlines rather than mobile services overnight. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the sabotage, and the number of individuals impacted remains unclear.

SFR and Bouygues have yet to respond to requests for comment. The vandalism has been reported in southern France, the Meuse region near Luxembourg, and the Oise area near Paris.
