KUWAIT CITY, Sep 11: A group of Filipino domestic workers is set to arrive in Kuwait after nearly one and half years of absence, according to Bassam Al-Shammari, an activist in the domestic workers' field. Al-Shammari stated that the first batch, consisting of 27 Filipino domestic workers, is scheduled to arrive on Saturday, marking the beginning of a larger group of 210 workers. Additional batches are expected to follow once their official documentation is completed.
Al-Shammari highlighted that Kuwait remains the most affordable Gulf country for recruiting domestic workers. He also mentioned that the "white list and black list" policy enforced by the Philippines has extended the time required to process the necessary paperwork.
Munir Al-Asimi, a domestic workers’ office owner, echoed this sentiment, stating that "the market is in urgent need of thousands of domestic workers." He emphasized that the Kuwaiti market requires Filipino domestic workers, as well as Indonesian and Nepalese laborers while noting that agreements with Ethiopia have yet to materialize.
