WASHINGTON, Feb 20, (Agencies): Bridgit Mendler is expanding her impressive resume with a new role as the CEO of Northwood Space, a startup dedicated to creating a "data highway between earth and space," as announced on X, formerly known as Twitter. The 31-year-old former Disney Channel star shared her excitement about designing shared ground infrastructure to enhance access to space, revealing that the company has secured $6.3 million in funding.
In a surprising twist, Mendler disclosed in a follow-up tweet that she is now a mother to a 4-year-old boy, explaining her journey into parenthood through fostering in 2021 and finalizing the adoption near Christmas of 2022.
While Mendler has just opened up about her motherhood journey, she expressed her passion for space law during her time at the Federal Communications Commission's Space Bureau in 2022. Drawing on her experiences at the University of Southern California, MIT, and Harvard, Mendler emphasized the challenges of sending data to and from space and the need for improved access points.
The multi-talented Mendler developed the concept for Northwood Space during the COVID-19 pandemic while spending time with her family in New Hampshire. Instead of joining the sourdough trend, they were building antennas from Home Depot materials, receiving data from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellites.
Adding a familial touch to the startup, Mendler's husband, Griffin Cleverly, married since October 2019, will contribute as the company's chief technology officer. Mendler's unique blend of experiences in entertainment, space law, and technology positions her as a dynamic force in the mission to revolutionize the connection between Earth and space.
