KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Mutab Al-Ardi, has sentenced a former Ministry of Interior officer to 15 years in prison with hard labor for his involvement in a robbery and attempted robbery of a money exchange office in Fintas. The incident occurred in August when the accused stole a taxi and attempted to rob the exchange office. Armed with a firearm, he threatened an employee but was unable to complete the crime as the weapon malfunctioned. He fled the scene, using the stolen taxi as his getaway vehicle.

The Criminal Security Sector, represented by the Ahmadi Governorate Investigations Department, launched an extensive investigation immediately after receiving the report. Detectives worked tirelessly, gathering evidence and tracking the suspect's movements using surveillance footage. This effort led to the identification of the accused, and legal procedures were secured to arrest him. Upon apprehension, the accused confessed to the crime and revealed the location where he had hidden the firearm.

During the trial, the defendant’s lawyer requested a psychiatric evaluation to determine his client’s mental responsibility at the time of the crime. However, the court rejected the defense’s plea and found the accused guilty on all charges, sentencing him to 15 years in prison with hard labor. This case underscores the swift action of the Criminal Security Sector in apprehending offenders and ensuring justice in cases of armed robbery.
