KUWAIT CITY, July 25: The Criminal Court has acquitted former MP Hussein Al-Qallaf in a state security case where he faced charges of insulting the government and challenging the rights of His Highness the Amir through an audio recording.

The case began when the Public Prosecution issued an arrest warrant against Al-Qallaf following a social media post in which he criticized the Ministry of Interior’s procedures for organizing Hussainiyas and the practice of Shiite rituals during the month of Muharram. Subsequently, Al-Qallaf was detained pending trial.

During a previous session, Al-Qallaf denied the charges, clarifying to the judge, "By the word ‘regime’ I meant the government, not His Highness the Amir."

The court's decision to acquit Al-Qallaf brings an end to the legal proceedings against him in this matter.
