LOS ANGELES, Oct 7, (Agencies): Chris Hemsworth has recently opened up about making significant lifestyle adjustments after learning of his heightened risk of Alzheimer's disease during an episode of the National Geographic and Disney+ documentary series, Limitless.
The renowned Marvel star shared his journey to Men's Health, emphasizing the newfound importance of personal well-being and stillness in his life. Hemsworth, known for his dedication to physical fitness, recognized the need to prioritize self-care amidst his busy schedule. He revealed that these changes have had a profound impact on various aspects of his life, even influencing his career choices.
Earlier this year, Hemsworth made the decision to accept fewer acting roles to allocate more quality time to his family. This shift has also transformed his fitness regimen, altering the perception of him as a bodybuilder.
He explained, "My weight has fluctuated considerably over the years due to the diverse roles I've taken on and my evolving interests in challenging my body in different ways." The actor has modified his workout routine, incorporating more cardio and endurance exercises in place of his traditional heavy lifting sessions.
During his appearance on Limitless, Hemsworth learned about his genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's disease. He discovered that he possesses two copies of the APOE e4 gene, one from each parent, which statistically increases the risk of developing Alzheimer's by "eight to 10 times."
Dr. Peter Attia, a specialist in longevity and the medical consultant on Limitless, clarified that having the APOE e4 gene does not equate to an Alzheimer's diagnosis. People with the gene may never develop the disease, while others without it could still be at risk. However, this revelation served as a profound wake-up call for Hemsworth.
The actor shared his introspective thoughts with Attia during an episode of the latter's Drive podcast. Hemsworth expressed a newfound desire to savor life's precious moments, particularly with his children, as he recognized the rapid changes occurring around him. He expressed a shift in perspective, moving away from a sprint mentality and focusing on being present and appreciative of everything life has to offer.
