Genetic fingerprinting is required for Kuwaitis born abroad

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: A new ministerial resolution, No. 2628 of 2024, has made genetic fingerprinting mandatory for Kuwaiti citizens born outside the country. The resolution, published in the official gazette Kuwait Today, requires that any Kuwaiti citizen who has a newborn abroad and wishes to add the child to their citizenship file must visit the General Administration of Nationality and Travel Documents and the General Administration of Criminal Evidence upon returning to Kuwait. The genetic fingerprint must be carried out for the child as part of this process.

However, the resolution provides exemptions for certain groups. These include members of the diplomatic corps, government employees sent abroad for study, training, or medical treatment, as well as employees of government agencies stationed overseas. Despite these exemptions, the General Directorate of Nationality reserves the right to request a genetic fingerprint from any individual in the exempted categories if deemed necessary.

The decision aims to ensure proper documentation and identity verification for children born abroad to Kuwaiti citizens.
