WASHINGTON, Jan 23, (Agencies): In connection with the tragic death of a child, an 18-year-old Georgia pageant queen finds herself facing serious charges after being arrested. The Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department initiated an investigation into Trinity Poague following a request on June 14. A mere week later, Poague is now charged with Aggravated Battery, Felony Murder, and Cruelty to Children First Degree.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation provided details of their findings in a press release issued on Sunday. According to the release, an unresponsive 18-month-old boy was admitted to the emergency room at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus, Georgia. Despite the hospital's efforts to save the child's life, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Poague, formerly a contestant in the local National Peanut Festival Pageant, is currently held in custody without bond, with the investigation still underway as confirmed by the police. Sumter County Coroner Mathis Wright revealed that the child's birth certificate identified him as Romeo Angles. However, conflicting information arose at the hospital, where the father referred to him as Jaxton Drew.
Wright's preliminary findings suggest that blunt force trauma may have been the cause of Jaxton Drew's death, pending further information from the autopsy results. The community awaits further developments as the legal proceedings unfold.
