Chromecast users worldwide have reported connectivity issues, with an outage affecting multiple countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Brazil. According to outage monitoring service Outage. Report, the incident began at approximately 1:47 PM UTC and lasted for about 18 minutes before services started stabilizing.
Users took to forums like Reddit to express frustration, reporting that their Chromecast devices were disconnecting frequently and, in some cases, requiring factory resets.
The outage comes just days after Google officially discontinued its Chromecast device, marking the end of a product that sold over 100 million units since its launch in 2013. The tech giant has introduced a new streaming device, Google TV Streamer, priced at £99 ($120 USD). The new model features improved storage, performance upgrades, and smart hub capabilities.
However, the replacement device is currently missing BBC iPlayer, due to a technical issue that Google says will be resolved soon. Meanwhile, existing Chromecast devices will continue to receive support and security updates until September 2025.
For users still experiencing Chromecast connectivity issues, Google has yet to release an official statement addressing the latest outage.
