BERLIN, Jan 22: A German study suggests that Google's search engine results have worsened due to increased spam. The year-long analysis focused on 7,392 product review queries across Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo, revealing a temporary positive impact from search engine interventions, particularly Google's. However, an ongoing struggle against SEO spam persists. Despite some improvement in Google's performance, the overall text quality declined in all three search engines. Google contested the findings, emphasizing specific improvements and stating that the study narrowly focused on product reviews. The study's scope does not represent the overall quality of billions of daily queries. Google, holding about 90% of the online search market, faces legal scrutiny over maintaining an illegal monopoly. A federal judge is expected to issue a ruling later this year.
